Student credit cards

With the increasing demand for better qualified people in the job market, more and more students are willing to go for higher education. But higher education does not come cheap; the costs involved in higher education can be met by most students by the use of student credit cards, which are especially designed for them.

Student credit cards help the student community to cover their expenses that often prove to be much higher than what their financial aid can take care of. What’s more, these cards also help students build a credit history which could come in handy for them in the future. If such a card comes with rewards programs, a student can use even in petrol pumps, bookstores or grocery shops. The reward points earned by students while making purchases can be later redeemed when he/she purchases various types of merchandise.

To be precise, student credit cards can be used almost everywhere to buy goods and services. But you must pay back the amount with full interest. Under normal circumstances, student credit cards come with a higher rate of then the usual bank loans. It is therefore wise to make your payments in time on a regular basis.

Student credit cards have credit limits that depend on a number of factors such as credit score and history, income and balances maintained in other bank accounts. The better your credit score, the higher the credit limit you can enjoy. In case your credit history extends only over a short period of time, you can have a score rating notwithstanding the fact that you have maintained a positive record in credit dealings. Credit card issuers do this because they find it difficult to assess you over such a short period of credit history.

You can, however, raise your credit limit over time with a consistent record of repayments.

Some of the familiar student credit cards are Discover Student Classis Card, Suntrust Student Visa and Chase Student Flexible Rewards Card.
